See My Heart

Welcome to SeeMyHeart.org, a patient information site dedicated to helping patients and the public better understand heart and circulation ultrasound. Brought to you by the Heart and Circulation Ultrasound Experts at the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE), Many of our pages have movies and animation to help you find out more about heart ultrasound.

Heart Disease is the leading cause of death in the United States for both men and women.  Our members use ultrasound to provide an exceptional view of the cardiovascular system. This exceptional view provides doctors with a wealth of information about the structure and function of a patient’s heart so proper treatment can then be started. This technology is an integral part of enhancing patient care.

ASE is also committed to improving public and patient education, providing cutting-edge professional education, supporting research in the cardiovascular ultrasound field, and developing practice guidelines to help ensure the best possible patient care.Heart and Circulation Ultrasound provide your doctor with moving images of your heart and circulation and takes excellent pictures that will help your doctor evaluate your health. ALERT: Attention Patients -

On January 1st, 2010, a new reality will set in for cardiovascular practices and patients - a reality not based on quality care but on false data and inaccurate assumptions. Medicare reimbursement to physicians will be cut for crucial services - cuts that range to 40% on key life saving diagnostic procedures such as echocardiograms and cardiac stress tests. With such drastic reductions, private practices will have to make difficult decisions including, in some cases, closing their practices and referring patients who need these procedures to hospitals. This will make these services more difficult to access and much more expensive, both for Medicare and through patient co-pays or supplemental insurance premiums.  Fight for your access to cardiovascular services—write your Congressman today! To view the the ASE Press Release regarding this issue, click here.

New Heart Ultrasound Research Reveals Life-Saving Treatment Alternatives and Advancements for Heart Patients- Breakthrough findings unveiled at the ASE Scientific Sessions

The American Society of Echocardiography Education and Research Foundation thanks Ronny Turiaf of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors for joining ASE's heart and circulation ultrasound specialists at the ASE Annual Scientific Sessions in Washington, DC on June 9, 2009. Ronny told his story and announced a new partnership between ASEF and his Ronny Turiaf Heart to Heart Foundation!

Ronny was drafted to the NBA in 2005 and was set to play for the Lakers until an echocardiogram revealed a life-threatening heart condition – an enlarged aortic root. After undergoing open-heart surgery, he is now back on the court with the Golden State Warriors.

Ronny has since formed his own foundation, the Ronny Turiaf Heart-to-Heart Foundation, to make sure that those less fortunate have access to important heart tests like echocardiograms, and that they know how to live heart healthy lives.

ASE, the ASE Foundation and Ronny Turiaf’s foundation have a common goal and will work together to raise public awareness about the value of echocardiography. The ASE Foundation mission includes raising funds for research and education while Ronny’s foundation looks to increase accessibility to echos for children in need.

Check back on SeeMyHeart.org often to learn more about this exciting partnership as we work together to spread the message about the value of cardiovascular ultrasound in disease management and patient care.
