Program Description

The American Society of Echocardiography’s 21st Annual Scientific Sessions benefits all healthcare providers interested in cardiovascular medicine and in the numerous applications of ultrasound imaging. Participants of all experience levels will find sessions that meet their needs and help improve their practice. International and domestic attendees alike will find the high quality lectures, debates, poster presentations, and exposition beneficial to their professional growth. Individuals from the fields of cardiac and vascular ultrasound, cardiovascular anesthesiology, cardiovascular medicine, cardiovascular surgery, pediatric cardiology, thoracic surgery, emergency/critical care medicine and nursing, as well as cardiology administrators, research scientists, lab directors, medical residents/fellows and students are encouraged to actively participate in sessions and interact with available faculty.

The Sessions commence on Saturday with a Valvular Heart Disease theme featuring a Heart Valve Symposium, Congenital track, Sonographer track, two-day Exam Prep and two-day Sonographer Registry Review. The “Heart Valve Innovations & Clinical Applications” symposium will bring surgeons, anesthesiologists, cardiologists, sonographers and pathologists together for a comprehensive assessment of valve disease spanning from guidelines and concepts to diagnosis and treatment. Helping kick off the first night of the Scientific Sessions, come dine and dance at the ASE Foundation Awards Gala honoring distinguished 2010 award winners, including one of Echocardiography’s heroes, Itzhak Kronzon, MD, FASE.

Sunday’s Heart Failure theme highlights new interventional and surgical devices for valve disease and heart failure at the half-day symposium, “Operative Approaches to the Treatment of Heart Failure.” Sunday is also the Grand Opening for the Exhibit & Poster Hall, offering more hands-on educational opportunities than ever before. End the day in the Exhibit & Poster Hall learning about the latest technologies, products, services and developments while mingling and networking at the President’s Reception from 6:00pm-7:00pm. Immediately following the President’s Reception, all members of the Council on Pediatric & Congenital Heart Disease, Intraoperative Council, Vascular Council and Sonographer Council are invited to attend the ASE Council Member Networking Reception, providing an opportunity for you to meet your fellow council members and respective boards.Monday’s ticketed breakfast sessions are followed by the 2010 Arthur E. Weyman Young Investigator’s Award Competition and Annual Feigenbaum Lecture, and the day continues with Coronary Artery Disease, Atrial Fibrillation, Valves and Echo in Interventions themed educational tracks. End the day with “Who Wants to be an Echo Millionaire,” returning in 2010 with a faster pace featuring more science and more cases. Who will take home the million dollar check? You’ll have to attend to find out! Later that night, all ASE members are invited to attend the ASE Members Only event at the San Diego Wine and Culinary Center at 9:45pm.

Tuesday brings the 21st Annual Scientific Sessions to an end, but not without first offering a full-day of some of the most popular sessions. Start the day with a good “Debate”, then learn from the “Legends” themselves as they recap some of their most unforgettable, challenging and memorable professional experiences. You won’t want to miss Liv Hatle, MD, FASE, a pioneer in Doppler echocardiography, present a case from her extraordinary career. Then, watch as this year’s luminary faculty “Wrap- Up” the main educational points of the 2010 Scientific Sessions. Tuesday afternoon concludes with the always popular “How To” sessions. ASE 2010 provides focused sessions highlighting the latest treatment strategies and newest technologies to its attendees.

The Exhibit & Poster Hall will house the new Imaging Village, where conference participants can view live scanning and hands-on demonstrations, and attend lunch & learn sessions, among other exciting options. Plan now to attend the most comprehensive cardiovascular ultrasound conference and learn how to enhance your patient care.

Accreditation

The American Society of Echocardiography is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The American Society of Echocardiography designates this educational activity for a maximum of 31.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The American Medical Association has determined that non-US licensed physicians who participate in this educational activity are eligible for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM.

ARDMS and CCI recognize ASE’s certificates and have agreed to honor the credit hours toward their registry requirements for sonographers.

This activity has been reviewed by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) and is acceptable for up to 31.5 hours of CME credit toward ICAEL laboratory accreditation requirements and up to 11.5 hours of CME credit toward ICAVL laboratory accreditation requirements. Due to concurrent sessions, the maximum amount of credits that can be applied towards echocardiography and vascular laboratory accreditation requirements combined is 31.5, with no more than 11.5 hours of credit being used towards ICAVL.

The National Board of EchocardiographyTM (NBE) requires 15 hours of echocardiography-specific CME for both ReASCE and RePTE recertification. This activity contains 15 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM that can be used towards recertification requirements.
