Course Description

The 2nd annual Vascular Imaging Symposium will focus on providing practitioners the necessary tools for better vascular imaging techniques. The faculty will use case studies, hands-on demonstrations, credentialing advice and case readings to demonstrate proper techniques for cerebrovascular, renal, peripheral arterial and venous ultrasound examinations and interpretations.

Learning Objectives

After participating in this program, attendees will be better able to:
·         Define the anatomy and appreciate the pathophysiology of the carotid artery
·         Appropriately utilize various imaging modalities to guide interventional vascular procedures
·         Recognize and evaluate renal artery disease
·         Apply ultrasound techniques to the evaluation of lower extremity arterial disease
·         Assess complications associated with procedures requiring vascular access

Intended Audience

The ASE 2010 Vascular Imaging Symposium benefits physicians, sonographers, fellows, medical students and other allied healthcare
providers interested in vascular ultrasound.

Accreditation and Designation

The American Society of Echocardiography is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The American Society of Echocardiography designates this educational activity for a maximum of 8 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

ARDMS and CCI recognize ASE’s certificates and have agreed to honor the credit hours toward their registry requirement for sonographers. This activity has been reviewed by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) and is acceptable for up to 8 hours of CME credit toward ICAVL laboratory accreditation requirements.

ASE is committed to ensuring that its educational mission and all sponsored educational programs are not influenced by the special interests of any corporation or individual, and its mandate is to retain only those speakers whose financial interests can be effectively resolved to maintain the goals and educational integrity of the program. 8:00 – 8:40 AM   Case-Based Study on Carotid Imaging:  This case-based lecture will cover diagnosis of carotid atherosclerotic disease and guidelines for reporting stenosis.  Other conditions such as diagnosis of carotid dissection, fibromuscular dysplasia and post stent evaluation will be reviewed.             

8:40 – 9:10 AM   Case Reading

9:10 – 9:25 AM   BREAK - Visit with Exhibitors

9:25 – 10:05 AM  Case-Based Study on Peripheral Artery Disease Imaging: This case-based lecture will cover diagnosis of atherosclerotic disease and techniques for evaluation including pressures/pulse volume waveforms and ultrasound.  Other conditions such as pseudoaneurysm and arteriovenous fistula will be covered.       

10:05 – 10:35 AM  Case Reading

10:35 – 11:15 AM  Case-Based Study on Renal and Mesenteric Imaging: This case-based lecture will cover diagnosis of renal atherosclerotic disease and guidelines for reporting stenosis.  Other conditions such as diagnosis of fibromuscular dysplasia and indices for predicting improvement with intervention will be reviewed.           

11:15 – 11:45 PM   Case Reading

12:45 – 1:25 PM   Case-Based Study on Venous Imaging: This case-based lecture will cover diagnosis of deep venous thrombosis and venous reflux.

1:55 – 2:30 PM  Credentials (Lab and Physician) and Starting IMT in Your Lab

2:30 – 2:45 PM  Break – Visit with Exhibitors

2:45 – 3:45 PM   Hands-on demonstrations with patients in Carotid, Renal, and PAD

3:45 – 5:00 PM   Mock Exam          

Registration and Fees

The registration fee includes coffee breaks, a boxed lunch, up to 8 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ and a memory stick with the course syllabus. This course is subject to space availability. Please register by October 6, 2010. After this date, on-site registration is required and neither space nor lunch is guaranteed. Attendees will be provided with a memory stick that includes all lectures released by faculty in a protected PowerPoint handout format. Printed syllabi will not be sold on site.

Accommodations

The ASE Vascular Imaging Symposium has secured rooms at the Inn at Penn, a Hilton Hotel, 3600 Sansom Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104. The hotel is less than a mile for the Hub Cira Centre where the course will be held.

Reservations will be guaranteed by the guest's credit card at the time the reservation is made. Guest will be responsible for payment of their hotel rooms, taxes and incidental charges.
