Advocacy Chair Represents ASE on the CPT Advisory Committee

Michael L. Main, MD, FASE was officially appointed to the American Medical Association (AMA) CPT Advisory Committee as the primary Advisor representing the American Society of Echocardiography. Dr. Main is chair of the ASE Advocacy Committee.

This appointment gives ASE a voice when echocardiography CPT codes are edited, introduced, or reviewed. This is also an opportunity to further build relationships and educate other healthcare professionals on the value of cardiovascular ultrasound. This appointment is another significant step in furthering ASE’s profile in the legislative and regulatory process. ASE is grateful to Dr. Main for his hard work and dedication.

The Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) coding system offers doctors across the country a uniform process for coding medical services that streamlines reporting and increases accuracy and efficiency. The purpose of CPT is to provide a uniform language that accurately describes medical, surgical, and diagnostic services, and thereby serves as an effective means for reliable nationwide communication among physicians and other healthcare providers, patients, and third parties.
