The Indonesian Society of Echocardiography held its 4th Annual Scientific Program, “Echocardiography Today: It’s More than just a Diagnostic Tool”, at the Hotel Borobudur in Jakarta. The meeting was chaired by ASE International Relations Task Force member and Chair of the Indonesian Society of Echocardiography, Dr. Amiliana Soesanto, who along with ASE International Relations Task Force member, Dr. Lissa Sugeng, obtained ASE’s endorsement of the meeting.
The record attendance exceeded 250. Lectures were provided by Lissa Sugeng, Jim Thomas and me, other speakers from SE Asia, and Amiliana and her colleagues from Indonesia. There was an excellent panel discussion on building a good echo lab, as well as lectures on quality, training, and the recommended standard echo protocol.
Meanwhile, Richie Palma provided tutoring to an attentive group of 20 sonographers and fellows in training at Dr. Soesanto’s Hospital, National Cardiovascular Center Harapan Kita Hospital. The event brought together the leaders of many SE Asian echo societies to discuss over dinner common interests and goals.
The dining in Jakarta was exceptional , especially the spicy chicken (think of small birds that run around free in the yard), ox tail soup, and interesting tropical fruits ranging from snake fruit to jackfruit.
