ASE sends its congratulations and a hearty well done to Dr. Noyan Gokce who is the Director of Echocardiography at Boston Medical Center for recently being awarded an NIH R01 award to study the relationship between obesity, insulin resistance, and regulation of the vasculature in multiple tissues, including adipose tissue. The project represents a multidisciplinary approach that uses sophisticated imaging to understand the intersection between metabolic diseases and vascular disease or dysfunction. These studies reflect ongoing efforts looking into how abnormalities in the vasculature are not just a consequence of diabetes, but may contribute to diabetes.
