Call for 2018 Volunteers

Committee application for 2018 is now open through January 5, 2018

(term of service June 2018 – June 2019)

“Volunteering for the ASE is easy.  When you receive the emails asking for help, don’t hesitate to apply.  It is not only interesting, but also very rewarding.”  Kymberly Glyde, RDCS, FASE

ASE depends on its members to get involved and advance our mission. Volunteers serve on the committees, councils, task forces, and writing groups that lead the Society and affect the profession. Our volunteers help set standards, develop products, create courses, direct subspecialty activities, advocate for echo on the federal and state levels, and more.

COMMITTEES

To serve on a committee, you must be an ACTIVE member and you must complete an electronic application during the application cycle. The application allows you to indicate which committee(s) you are interested in. If you have not previously served on an ASE committee or on the Board of Directors, you will need to provide a recommendation letter, preferably from a FASE level member or a senior person in the CV ultrasound field, along with a copy of your curriculum vitae.   While ASE strives to put each applicant into his or her first choice committee, we are not always able to do so due to the volume of applicants.

If appointed, your term on the committee will be for two years with the opportunity to be renewed for one additional year (total of 3 years). Most standing committees have a third of their membership rotate off each year. The application process opens in November and closes in January, with terms beginning immediately following the ASE Scientific Sessions (June 22 – 26, 2018, Nashville, TN). The most effective committee members are those who are willing to attend one to two face-to-face meetings (usually held in conjunction with ASE Annual Scientific Sessions and engage in several conference calls a year. ASE volunteers are not financially supported for their travel to committee meetings (the conference calls are held on toll-free lines).

Please remember that by virtue of their goals, some committees require volunteers with experience in the subject area. These include, but are not limited to, the Scientific Sessions Program, International Relations Advisory, Nominations, and Awards.

If you are chosen to serve on a committee, you will receive a new invitation, or a renewal invitation. You must then accept or decline the invitation.

COUNCILS

The four ASE councils play a prominent role in our organization. Membership on a council, a complimentary member benefit, provides unique opportunities for participation within the Society. Councils offer a forum for members with specific clinical or professional interests to identify and advance professional priorities. Individual Council Boards use a different selection and election process than ASE committees. For more detailed information, please contact the Council staff liaison, Natayla Read, nread@asecho.org.   To join a council, log in to your ASE member portal, click on “My Account” and scroll down to “Councils and Networks.”

Council on Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease

Council on Vascular Ultrasound

TASK FORCES

Task forces are created when short-term projects arise that need special and focused attention. Membership on an ASE task force is designated by the acting ASE president, and these groups are generally composed of subject-matter experts that can help fulfill the task force charges.  Preference is given to ASE members, but depending on the needs of the project, non-members and industry specialists may be asked to serve.  Most task force members serve a one-year term.

WRITING GROUPS

Writing groups are responsible for developing guideline and standard documents for the Society. The ASE Guidelines and Standards Committee is responsible for guiding topics, designating membership of the writing groups, and reviewing all guideline documents in progress.

We hope you will consider volunteering your time and expertise to help ASE achieve its mission and goals.  Get involved, stay involved — we need you!
