Charles Plumb, a fighter pilot in the United States Navy, was captured and spent six years in a Vietnamese prison after his plane was shot down. He had ejected and parachuted into enemy territory, and he survived. Many years later, at a restaurant, a man walked up to him and said: “You’re Plumb! You flew jet fighters in Vietnam from the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk. You were shot down! I packed your parachute. I guess it worked!” Plumb replied, “It sure did. If your chute hadn’t worked, I wouldn’t be here today.” Plumb realized that we often fail to recognize those who play an important part in providing us what we need to get through our day.
