The August issue of JASE is now online and features a variety of content including an original investigation titled, “Transaortic Flow Rate and Risk Stratification in Moderate Aortic Stenosis.” Lead author Paolo Springhetti, MD, remarks, “Transaortic flow rate (FR) helps in moderate aortic stenosis for risk stratification. Patients with transaortic FR below 218 ml/s and concomitant stroke volume or left ventricular ejection fraction impairment exhibit dismal prognosis.”
Accompanying this report is a commentary titled, “Flow State in Aortic Stenosis: ‘Whatever the Parameters, as Long as We Identify the Risk.”’ This issue also contains another report related to moderate aortic stenosis, addressing the impact of renal function on myocardial remodeling and outcomes in patients with this condition. Other original investigations examine quantitation of mitral regurgitation, association between 3D right ventricular ejection fraction and in-hospital outcomes in patients undergoing cardiac surgery, mechanisms of obstruction in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and the association of atrial right-to-left shunting after tetralogy of Fallot repair with improved atrial function and shorter hospital stays. Four editorial comments accompany these reports, and the brief research communications discuss bicuspid aortic valve stenosis, 3D echocardiography, and right ventricular reverse remodeling in adults with repaired tetralogy of Fallot after pulmonary valve replacement. Rounding out this issue is a letter to the editor regarding the implementation of artificial intelligence in an echocardiography laboratory.
In this month’s President’s Message, David Wiener, MD, FASE, shares his own volunteer trajectory with ASE, including the many rewards that come from engaging with ASE in whichever capacity appeals to readers.
Tune into our Author Spotlight page for interviews between JASE Editor-in-Chief Patricia Pellikka, MD, FASE, and authors of recently published papers. July’s interview features Sherif F. Nagueh, MD, FASE, discussing ASE’s newest guideline, “Recommendations for the Evaluation of Left Ventricular Diastolic Function by Echocardiography and for Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction Diagnosis: An Update from the American Society of Echocardiography.”
