Dr. David Wiener Begins Term as 2025-2026 President of the American Society of Echocardiography

2025-2026 ASE President David H. Wiener, MD, FASE
(DURHAM, NC, July 3, 2025)—The American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) is pleased to announce the appointment of David H. Wiener, MD, FASE, as the Society’s 2025-2026 President, effective July 1, 2025. An ASE member since 1991, Dr. Wiener has long regarded the global cardiovascular ultrasound imaging society as his professional home. He brings a deep appreciation for the organization’s legacy and a forward-thinking agenda as he leads ASE through the latter half of its milestone 50th Anniversary year and into its 51st year in early 2026.
In the July 2025 issue of the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography, Dr. Wiener outlines his initiatives for his term as President and invites ASE’s community of over 20,000 members to support his agenda focused on collaboration, workforce sustainability and member engagement. His vision is organized around three guiding principles whose names match ASE’s initials:
- Align with Collaborators: Building on efforts initiated by previous ASE leaders, Dr. Wiener will lead a working group to strengthen collaboration with other professional societies and identify opportunities for partnerships in areas such as guideline development, best practices, medical registries, certification pathways and shared education.
- Sustain Our Workforce: To confront the current and projected workforce challenges in the field, Dr. Wiener is launching a working group focused on developing and maintaining a sustainable workforce to ensure the well-being of ASE members and the patients it serves.
- Engage Current/Future Members: Dr. Wiener plans to prioritize customized engagement strategies to demonstrate the unique value of ASE membership to all users of cardiovascular ultrasound.
“I am honored to lead ASE at a time when cardiovascular ultrasound is expanding and evolving,” said Dr. Wiener. “Cardiac imaging is a multi-modality team effort, and we work best—and our patients benefit most—when we collaborate effectively. I look forward to working with and learning from members of our vibrant community in the coming year to help future generations find purpose and possibility in the field.”
Dr. Wiener serves as Director of Clinical Operations at the Jefferson Heart Institute and Clinical Professor of Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He earned his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, completed an internal medicine residency at Montefiore Medical Center in New York, and pursued a cardiology fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Over the last three decades, Dr. Wiener has built a strong record of service at ASE. He became a Fellow in 2003 and has served on and chaired numerous committees, task forces, and workgroups—including the Advocacy; Guidelines & Standards; Public Relations; and Finance, Strategy and Development Committees; as well as the Leadership Academy Selection Task Force and the Update to COVID-19 Statement on Echo Services Writing Group.
Dr. Wiener joins nine newly elected members of ASE’s 2025-2026 Board of Directors and 13 continuing Board members. He will officially address ASE’s membership during the upcoming 2025 Scientific Sessions, taking place September 5-7, 2025, at the Music City Center in Nashville, Tenn.
