American Society of Echocardiography Welcomes Dr. Cynthia Taub
as 2026-2027 President

Cynthia Taub, MD, MBA, FASE

(DURHAM, N.C., July 2, 2026)—The American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) is pleased to announce the appointment of Cynthia C. Taub, MD, MBA, FASE, as the Society’s 2026-2027 President, effective July 1, 2026. Dr. Taub is a nationally recognized cardiologist, educator, and researcher, and is the seventh woman to lead the Society in its more than 50-year history.

Dr. Taub serves as the Edward C. Reifenstein Endowed Professor and Chair of Medicine at the State University of New York Upstate Medical University, Norton College of Medicine, a large integrated hospital system that maintains academic and clinical affiliations with several regional medical centers. As ASE’s President, she plans to focus on four interconnected strengths that advance the Society’s 2025-2028 strategic goals: credibility, catalyst, connectivity, and community.

“Under my leadership, members will not see a year of forceful disruption but instead, thoughtful, adaptive stewardship,” said Dr. Taub. “Together, we will focus on accountable governance, transparent decision-making, strategic partnerships, and sound financial management for long-term stability.”

ASE is the global leader in cardiovascular ultrasound, and its mission is to advance the field and improve lives. In the July 2026 issue of the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography, Dr. Taub outlines her priorities for the year and invites ASE members to join her in helping ensure echocardiography remains a cornerstone in cardiovascular care.

Her vision is organized into four main areas:

  • Community: Our greatest strength is our people
  • Credibility: Quality is our North Star
  • Connectivity: Echocardiography without borders
  • Catalyst: Innovation with guardrails

“ASE thrives when members show up, across career stage, geography, and discipline,” said Dr. Taub. “My role as President is not to set direction alone, but to listen, align and support the extraordinary expertise within our Society.”

An active ASE member since 2002 and Fellow of ASE since 2005, Dr. Taub has held numerous leadership roles across the Society. She has served on and chaired multiple committees, task forces, and workgroups, including ASE’s Finance Committee, International Relations Committee, and Industry Relations Advisory Committee, and she served as Treasurer of both the ASE Board of Directors and ASE Foundation Board of Directors. She received ASE’s Richard Popp Excellence in Teaching Award in 2023 and chaired the writing group for the recently published “Guidelines for the Standardization of Adult Echocardiography Reporting.”

Dr. Taub earned her medical degree from Beijing Medical University in China, master’s degree in biology from Dartmouth College, and a Master of Business Administration (healthcare track) from Yale School of Management. She completed clinical cardiology training at Hartford Hospital, University of Connecticut, and an Advanced Echocardiography fellowship from Massachusetts General Hospital. She is board certified in cardiovascular diseases and holds additional certification in adult comprehensive echocardiography.

Dr. Taub joins nine newly selected members on ASE’s 2026-2027 Board of Directors and 11 continuing Board members.
