ASE Members Receive Discounted Registration Fees

The 37^th Advanced Echo Conference—which takes place October 20-21, 2023, at the Waterfront Beach Resort, A Hilton Hotel in Huntington Beach, California—includes succinct didactics and interactive, case-based learning of the latest in clinical echocardiography. The program will present a variety of clinical problems and discuss the role of 2D/3D echo, Doppler modalities, strain imaging, flow quantitation, and contrast echo in the diagnosis and therapeutic guidance in a variety of clinical scenarios. In-depth discussion of the strengths of various echo techniques and parameters will be coupled with tips to avoid pitfalls.

This event is hosted by Hoag and offered in cooperation with the American Society of Echocardiography. ASE members receive reduced registration fees. Registration costs $640 USD for ASE-member physicians (regularly $800) and $440 USD for ASE-member technologists/sonographers/allied health professions/fellows in training/students (regularly $560). Attendees can earn up to 16.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.

Eidem, MD, FASE, will select the recipients of the Physician Lifetime Achievement Award and the Meritorious Service Award, The Sonographer Lifetime Achievement Award, Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Echocardiography, Founders’ Award for Lifetime Achievement in Echocardiography for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease, and Circulation & Vascular Ultrasound Council (CAVUS) Luminary Award will be chosen by ASE Councils. CASE Special Issue – Adult Congenital Heart Disease

The CASE journal’s submission system (Editorial Manager) is open for submissions to our Special Issue, “Adult Congenital Heart Disease.” Please click here for full details about this special issue, for which ASE President Benjamin W. Eidem, MD, FASE, is serving as Guest Editor. Please submit your manuscript before the deadline of October 1, 2023.

IMPORTANT: While submitting your manuscript, please select the article type “SI: Adult Congenital Heart Disease (Case Report)” or “SI: Adult Congenital Heart Disease (Letter to Editor)” from the dropdown list. If you do not select one of these Article Types, your submission CANNOT be considered for the Special Issue. Once your manuscript is submitted, it will be assigned for the peer-review process.

ASE’s 2nd Annual Echo in Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease Virtual Experience will take place September 30-October 1, 2023. This two-day virtual course contains echo-specific education for the pediatric community and this year’s program is aimed primarily toward sonographers, both adult and congenital cardiology, with focused sessions on career development and well-being. 

Three Reasons to Attend:

1. Echo in PCHD offers the latest information on established and emerging cardiovascular ultrasound technologies, clinical care and practical considerations in children and adults with congenital heart disease.

How to Submit Your Echo Images

1. Log in to Connect@ASE using your ASE username (email address) and password.
2. Using the left navigation, scroll to Libraries and click on Image Library.
3. Click on the folder named ASE 2024 Image Calendar.
4. Click Upload Resource under Folder Contents to upload your image(s). Image file size cannot exceed 30 MB.
5. Upload as many images as you would like.
6. Remember to include a title and brief description of your image.

All members who renew by December 31, 2023, will receive the 2024 wall calendar in the mail. Not including members who live in locations that are not served by the USPS.

The August issue of JASE includes, “The Risk of Heart Failure Progression in Patients With Patent Foramen Ovale: Differential Risk Associated With Device Closure.” Regarding this intriguing report, authors Jae-Hyeong Park, MD, PhD, and Goo-Yeong Cho, MD, PhD, remark, “Patients who have undergone device closure for a patent foramen ovale may be at increased risk for heart failure (HF), which is usually associated with underlying structural heart disease or atrial fibrillation. Therefore, these patients at high risk for developing HF require careful medical monitoring with optimal risk management.”

This issue features a myriad of clinical investigations on topics ranging from left atrial appendage flow and future atrial fibrillation, to ultrasound assessment of pericardial thickening and adhesion, to impact of ventricular geometry on myocardial stiffness assessment using shear wave velocity. You can review the results of the World of Alliance Societies of Echocardiography (WASE) study on normal values of three-dimensional right ventricular size and function measurements while examining the future of quality in echocardiographic reporting through the lens of ASE’s ImageGuideEcho Registry. Brief research communications include reports on the usefulness of Doppler TTE for the diagnosis of wide QRS complex tachycardia and utility of Doppler systolic timing intervals in discriminating “true” severe from “pseudo-severe” stenosis in classical low-flow, low-gradient aortic stenosis.

Highlighted within this issue is stress echo—a clinical investigation on postsystolic shortening and global longitudinal strain for dobutamine stress echo in end-stage liver disease, and Dr. Pellikka’s editorial, which presents recent reports in stress echo’s improved detection and evaluation of CAD.
