Advocacy Chair Represents ASE on the CPT Advisory Committee

Michael L. Main, MD, FASE was officially appointed to the American Medical Association (AMA) CPT Advisory Committee as the primary Advisor representing the American Society of Echocardiography. Dr. Main is chair of the ASE Advocacy Committee.

This appointment gives ASE a voice when echocardiography CPT codes are edited, introduced, or reviewed. This is also an opportunity to further build relationships and educate other healthcare professionals on the value of cardiovascular ultrasound. This appointment is another significant step in furthering ASE’s profile in the legislative and regulatory process. ASE is grateful to Dr. Main for his hard work and dedication.

The Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) coding system offers doctors across the country a uniform process for coding medical services that streamlines reporting and increases accuracy and efficiency. The purpose of CPT is to provide a uniform language that accurately describes medical, surgical, and diagnostic services, and thereby serves as an effective means for reliable nationwide communication among physicians and other healthcare providers, patients, and third parties.

U.S. Physicians… Just a Few Minutes of Your Time!

CPT codes that describe stress echocardiography are currently under review. Your participation is key in the assessment of the time, complexity, and physician work value for these procedures. This is your opportunity to participate in the Relative Value Update Committee (RUC) process to ensure fair and adequate code valuation. If you were randomly selected with the subject line, “Help ACC and ASE with RUC Physician Work Survey for Stress Echo,” please take a few minutes to complete this new survey.

The information you provide is critical to ensuring appropriate valuation for these services. We greatly appreciate your time, input, and expertise. For more information, please visit here.
