The April JASE issue is now online and features an Original Investigation “Invasive Validation of Right Ventricular Stroke Volume and Tricuspid Regurgitant Volume Obtained from Three-Dimensional Echocardiography.” Regarding this paper, author Luigi Badano, MD, PhD, FESC, FASE, remarked, “Quantifying the severity of tricuspid regurgitation is essential given its
significant implications for prognosis and management. Conventional Doppler quantification methods are inadequate because they rely on geometric and fluid-dynamic assumptions and overlook intrabeat variability in regurgitant flow. The three-dimensional volumetric method is a superior alternative, providing a reliable measurement of regurgitant volume independent of geometric, fluid-dynamic, or temporal assumptions. This method is crucial for applications following transcatheter interventions, where Doppler techniques are not suitable.”
To accompany this article there is an editorial comment that contextualizes the role of multimodality imaging for volume-based tricuspid regurgitation . This issue’s original investigations incorporate a variety of topics including left ventricular diastolic function and the right ventricle, pre-procedural Doppler echocardiography for risk stratification after TAVR, risk stratification in heart failure with the latest diastolic function guidelines, left ventricular strain and myocardial fibrosis, and left atrial strain and outcome in pediatric cardiomyopathy. Rounding out the issue is a state-of-the-art review, three brief research communications, and three letters.
In this month’s President’s Message, ASE President David Wiener, MD, FASE explores ASE’s big tent where specialty interest groups serve as communities for all of our members to feel at home.
