Instructions for Submitting Leadership Nominations

The Deadline for Submission of Nominations and Candidate Materials is November 30, 2026.

Consideration for leadership positions should be based on valuable service to ASE or contributions to the field of cardiovascular ultrasound. Candidates must also understand and support the strategic goals of the society and broadly represent the ASE membership.

All active members* are eligible for nomination for most of the open positions, including the ladder to presidency. While candidates can actively seek support for their candidacy, candidates are not self-nominated, they must have at minimum a nomination letter and ideally additional letters of support put forward by other active ASE members.

*Members who work for industry are not eligible to serve on the ASE Board of Directors, Council Steering Committees, or Committees.

Nominator's Responsibilities

Submit a letter of nomination outlining candidate’s leadership skills to ASE. Active members may nominate one candidate per open position. Letters should be addressed to the Nominations Committee Chair Theodore Abraham, MD, FASE, preferably on letterhead, with a signature. (See Guidelines for Letters at bottom of this page). These letters should include:

    • your assessment of the candidate’s attributes that qualify them as a role model in the field of CV ultrasound
    • your assessment of the candidate’s unique qualifications that qualify them as an exceptional candidate for the position
    • examples of the candidate’s attributes that foster the mission and goals of the ASE.

Solicit additional letters of support for nomination. These letters of support may be submitted separately to the Nominations Committee (send to Suzanne Morris) or given to the nominee to submit with their materials.  ASE Board candidates may have 2-3 letters of support.  ASE Vice President candidates may have up to 5 letters of support.

Members can provide supporting letters for more than one candidate. If a member is writing to support more than one candidate, the letters must highlight the differences in the candidates; otherwise, the letters take away the weight of the recommendations for both candidates.

Members of the Nominations Committee(opens in new tab) (opens in new tab) cannot write letters of nomination or support. Nominees are restricted from contacting or lobbying members of the Nominations Committee other than by asking questions about the process.

Members of the Executive Committee(opens in new tab) are not permitted to make nominations for candidates seeking executive level positions. A Member of the Executive Committee may write a letter of support for a candidate seeking an executive level position; however, no candidate may have more than one (1) of the required supporting letters come from Executive Committee members.

Candidate's Responsibilities

To assist in your nomination please complete the following:

  • Complete the Self-Assessment(opens in new tab). The ASE Leadership Candidate Self Assessment is an overview of the candidates nomination. The assessment reviews criteria for each open position, reviews candidates strengths, leadership experience, as well as leadership style. The assessment concludes with attestation to ASE’s core values and ethics. Please plan for 30-45 minutes to complete the assessment.
  • Submit a copy of a current and accurate CV via the Self-Assessment (upload required to complete the self assessment). Please include any certifications in the medical field, particularly related to echocardiography.
  • Submit a one - two page vision statement which includes your level of interest for the position, expertise, areas of interest, how your time will be made available and how you would contribute to ASE achieving its goals(opens in new tab). This statement must be included in the Self-Assessment (upload required to complete the self assessment). This will minimally include:
      • your attributes that qualify you as a role model in the field of CV ultrasound
      • your unique qualifications that qualify you as an exceptional candidate for this position
  • Review and submit the online  ASE Annual Volunteer Disclosure form. Candidates will be required to submit a Volunteer Disclosure form.  Please be sure to read the complete  Volunteer Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policy(opens in new tab) before submitting the form.
  • All nominees will be subject to a social media screening process from a third-party vendor to assure that you have abided with ASE’s ethics policy and core values before being considered.
  • VP candidates (only) will be required to submit a letter from their organizations leadership that confirm 30% of their time will be allocated for ASE business for the year they will be President. This letter will be submitted via the Self-Assessment (upload required to complete the Self-Assessment.)

Guideline for Letters

Please remember that the nomination process is confidential, and you should avoid discussions with others regarding who is nominated for which position.

"Being an ASE Board member provided the ability to deeply understand the inner workings of ASE, the overall mission and vision, opportunities and threats, and to be an active part of guiding these processes. In particular, being able to work on the strategic plan was a privilege. I was honored to get to work with and know better the other Directors and the two Presidents we worked with, as well as the amazing ASE staff."  Recent Board Member
