Melissa Wasserman is expert in the use of echocardiography in congenital heart disease and is passionate about improving the lives of children through cardiovascular ultrasound teaching, research and clinical care. As the Supervisor of Echo Lab Satellite Operations at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), she is responsible for operations of 12 echo labs performing over 14,000 echocardiograms annually.

Melissa’s interests include echocardiography in adults with congenital heart disease, training adult sonographers in imaging congenital heart disease, and echocardiography in the pediatric cardio-oncology population. As a dedicated educator, Melissa has focused on congenital sonographer training both through her work as a subject matter expert for the Congenital Echocardiography board of Cardiovascular Credentialing International for the last 7 years, as co-author of ‘The Congenital Echocardiographer’s Pocket Reference’, and as chair of the ASE task force to create guidelines for adult sonographers screening for complex congenital heart disease in the newborn. Her expertise goes beyond her 20 years at CHOP, having participated in several volunteer activities such as traveling with the ASE Foundation to screen children in Kenya.

Melissa has been a Fellow of the ASE since 2010 and a member of ASE since 2008. She has served on several committees, councils, task forces and guideline writing groups, including serving as first author. Melissa is a proud graduate of the 2nd cohort of the ASE Leadership Academy and is excited to be a part of ASE’s growth, ensuring sonographer’s voices are heard and valued.
