Dr. Ted Abraham is the Meyer Friedman Distinguished Professor of Medicine and Associate Chief of Cardiology at University of California at San Francisco. Previously, he was Associate Dean for Community Research at Johns Hopkins Medicine, and Professor of Medicine and Radiology, and Radiologic Sciences at Johns Hopkins University. He is a board-certified cardiologist with an expertise in Advanced Echocardiography and Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, and co-founded the Johns Hopkins and UCSF HCM Centers of Excellence.

Dr. Abraham’s research has focused on cardiac mechanics and HCM using strain echocardiography, machine learning, and computational flow modeling at the translational and clinical levels. This multi-disciplinary effort involves close collaborations with Anesthesiology, Pediatrics, Cardiac Surgery, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, and Mechanical Engineering, and has resulted in over 200 peer-reviewed publications and contiguous NIH, society, and industry funding as principal or co-investigator for over 20 years. He was/is involved in several HCM clinical trials including EXPLORER HCM, REDWOOD HCM, SEQUOIA HCM, ODYSSEY HCM, ACACIA HCM, CIRRUS HCM, MyPeak-1 and IMPROVE HCM, among others. He founded and served as the first President of the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Medical Society (HCMS). He was on the editorial board of the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography, Journal of the American College of Cardiology: Cardiovascular Imaging, and Circulation: Cardiovascular Imaging (a journal of the American Heart Association). He also serves as an expert on HCM for the British Medical Journal.
