This advanced clinical module provides an in-depth, case-based exploration of the anatomical and hemodynamic challenges associated with repaired atrioventricular septal defects (AVSDs) in adult patients. Centered around a complex clinical case of a 33-year-old male presenting with severe AV valve regurgitation and progressive pulmonary hypertension.
Participants will learn the limitations of standard echocardiography and the critical role of adjunctive multimodality imaging. The module demonstrates exactly when and how to integrate transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) to pinpoint specific mechanisms of regurgitation, and cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging for highly accurate ventricular volume and function assessments.
- Review the anatomy and echocardiographic evaluation of AVSDs
- Understand the role of multimodality imaging
- Assess and manage pulmonary vascular disease
- Determine surgical timing and post-operative follow-up
