On January 31, ASE with the Alliance of Specialty Medicine in comments to the Senate Bipartisan Graduate Medical Education (GME) Group as they consider legislation on increasing GME slots. The letter focused on the need for additional GME slots and asked that 25% of available residency slots go to specialty medicine. This letter builds on one of ASE’s main policy priorities- supporting the echocardiography workforce. As the medical workforce faces ongoing shortages, it is imperative that Congress support the future of a diverse medical workforce by investing in additional Medicare-supported GME slots for specialties such as echocardiography.
