ASE Joins Letter in Support of Senate GME Legislation

On August 6, ASE signed onto an Alliance of Specialty Medicine letter to bill sponsors, Sens. Boozman, Warnock, Collins, and Schumer, and Reps. Sewell and Fitzpatrick, applauding the recent Senate introduction of the Resident Physician Shortage Reduction Act (S. 2439 / H.R. 3890). The legislation calls an annual increase of 2,000 Graduate Medical Education (GME) residency slots for the next seven years. While expressing support for the bill, the Alliance calls attention to the increasing shortage of specialty doctors and the need for additional designated slots to support the future of the specialty physician workforce.
