On December 18, ASE joined the Alliance of Specialty Medicine in sending a letter to Representatives Raul Ruiz and Gus Bilirakis in support of the Strengthening Medicare for Patients and Providers Act (H.R. 6160). The bill would provide an annual inflationary update for Medicare physician payment tied to the Medicare Economic Index (MEI), addressing the systemic issues with the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule that have led to inadequate reimbursement, forcing physician practices to limit Medicare patients, consolidate with larger health systems, or close permanently.
