On April 17, ASE joined the ALARA+ Coalition in sending a letter to Arizona State Senator Carine Werner expressing support for SB1121, a radiation and orthopedic safety bill pending before the Arizona Legislature. The Coalition praised the bill as an important step toward modernizing protections for healthcare workers and patients in cath lab settings. The letter argues that SB1121 would reduce risks associated with radiation exposure and orthopedic injury by permitting the use of enhanced radiation protection devices, and that these improvements would translate directly into safer procedural environments and improved access to care.

ASE supports this legislation, as its membership includes interventional echocardiographers and sonographers who are routinely present during fluoroscopically guided procedures and would directly benefit from access to enhanced radiation protection devices. By enabling Arizona facilities to adopt these modern protections, SB1121 has the potential to improve comfort, reduce musculoskeletal injury, and support longer, healthier careers for the echocardiography workforce that supports these critical procedures.
