On March 6, ASE joined a record-breaking 558 organizations in signing the Ad Hoc Group for Medical Research’s fiscal year (FY) 2027 funding recommendation for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The letter recommends at least $51.303 billion for NIH, a $4.087 billion (8.7%) increase over FY 2026 enacted levels. It highlights NIH-funded research as the foundation for nearly every preventive intervention, diagnostic, treatment, and cure in practice today, while emphasizing the economic multiplier effect of federal research investment on job creation, global competitiveness, and national security.
NIH funding directly supports the cardiovascular research that advances echocardiography and cardiac imaging, from the development of new diagnostic techniques to evidence-based treatment protocols. Sustained growth in NIH funding ensures continued innovation in cardiovascular care and protects the research infrastructure essential to improving outcomes for patients with heart disease. ASE’s endorsement reflects its commitment to strengthening the federal investment that underpins the future of the specialty.
