In advance of the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee’s hearing on Medicare physician payment issues and reforms enacted under MACRA, ASE, with the Alliance of Specialty Medicine, submitted this letter as testimony for the hearing record urging Congress to pursue meaningful, long-term reforms to the Medicare physician payment system.
The letter calls on Congress to address the cumulative decline in Medicare physician payments by enacting a permanent inflation-based update tied to the Medicare Economic Index, overhaul the burdensome and clinically ineffective MIPS program, and expand meaningful alternative payment model opportunities for specialists, including restoring the full APM incentive payment and prohibiting implementation of the newly finalized Ambulatory Specialty Model.
