Turn Over a New Leaf with the October JASE

The October JASE issue is now online and features a new original investigation “Natural Shear Wave Velocities at Rest Are Associated with Impaired Cardiopulmonary Fitness in Childhood Cancer Survivors.” Regarding this paper, Jens-Uwe Voigt MD, PhD remarks, “Natural shear wave imaging may help detect subtle changes in cardiac function associated with reduced cardiopulmonary fitness in childhood cancer survivors, even at rest. A promising step towards early, non-invasive detection of cardiovascular impairment in this vulnerable population.”

In addition to this original investigation this issue incorporates a variety of topics including utility of right ventricular strain in assessing outcome in mitral regurgitation, “reverse saddle mitral annulus” and mitral annular disjunction, mitral valve geometry and TEER strategy, intervention in moderate aortic stenosis, quantitation of pericardial fluid volume, atrial thrombus in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and fetal atrial septal aneurysm and arrhythmias. Readers can also look forward to a state-of-the-art review on discordant superior vena cava and hepatic vein Doppler.
