Call for Volunteers

NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS – OPEN UNTIL JANUARY 4, 2022

Term of service: July 2022 – June 2023

ASE depends on its members to get involved and advance our mission. Volunteers serve on the committees, councils, task forces, specialty interest groups, and writing groups that lead the Society and affect the profession. Our volunteers help set standards, develop products, create courses, direct subspecialty activities, advocate for echo on the federal and state levels, and more.

COMMITTEES
To serve on a committee, you must have paid your 2022 member dues and you must complete an electronic application during the open application cycle. The application allows you to indicate which committee(s) you are interested in serving on next year. If you have not previously served on an ASE committee, Council Steering Committee or on the Board of Directors, you will need to provide a recommendation letter, preferably from a FASE level member or a senior person in the CV ultrasound field, along with a copy of your curriculum vitae/resume. While ASE strives to put each applicant into his or her first choice of committee, we are not always able to do so due to the large volume of applicants. If this happens, we will try to place you on one of your other choices or in another area that could best use your skill set or specialty area.

If appointed, your term on the committee will be for two years with the opportunity to be renewed for one additional year (total of three years). Most standing committees have a third of their membership rotate off each year. If you are placed on a taskforce, your expected term will be one year in total. The application process opens in November and closes in January, with terms beginning immediately following the ASE Scientific Sessions (June 2022, Seattle, WA). The most effective committee members are those who are willing to attend one to two face-to-face meetings (usually held in conjunction with ASE Annual Scientific Sessions) and engage in several conference calls a year. ASE volunteers are not financially supported for their travel to committee meetings (the conference calls are held via Zoom or on toll-free lines).

Please remember that by virtue of their stated goals, some committees require volunteers with expertise or experience in the subject area. These include, but are not limited to, the Guidelines and Standards, Advocacy, IRT, Nominations and Finance Committees. Placements on the Journals’ Editorial Boards (JASE and CASE) are handled by the Editors and are not part of this application process.

If you are chosen to serve on a committee, you will receive a new invitation, or a renewal invitation. You must then accept or decline the invitation.

ASE would like our volunteer groups to reflect our membership. To better enact our diversity and inclusion policy, we need to be able to measure our Society’s adherence.  To help us with this task, please make every effort to complete your entire membership profile before submitting your application by logging into your member portal and completing all fields under My Profile and clicking Save & Refresh Profile Information.

We hope you will consider volunteering your time and expertise to help ASE achieve its mission and goals.  Get involved, stay involved — we need you!

The full Conflict of Interest/Disclosure Statement is available online.  You must be logged into the member portal to view the statement and to access the application below.
